Ever since the summer, I’ve found a great affinity for turtles. Reading this first sentence may make you question what the hell goes on in my mind sometimes. But there’s a reason for everything, so hear me out.

It finally came to my senses this past summer while at Camp Texas. As I was drying off from the aftermath of the colour war, (my white shirt being horrendously stained with red, purple, blue, and orange masses) someone asked me what my spirit animal was. Without even thinking, I said “a turtle.” She looked at me with a crooked smile, furrowing her eyebrows, asking why I would pick a turtle as my spirit animal. So my reasoning was simple: because I look like one, duh. She didn’t believe me until I made the turtle face, and that’s when it became evident that my spirt animal was in fact a turtle.

So now, several months later, I came up with something called Turtle Tuesday. It started as a self-made Snapchat trend… but it’s growing into something like a trademark of my freshman year.

Before I make this post too long about how I’m basically a turtle, I’ll just show you some pictures that will convince you of it.

Evolution of me as a turtle. Since being a lil munchkin, I was showing off my inner turtle.

Yup. It’s all in the lips. And the nose. And the eyes.
Every Tuesday is a holiday. Always a reason to celebrate.
We even have a Turtle Pond on campus!
Summer 2012: Cancun, Mexico The first time I was exposed to my real life brothers and sisters.
The first time I held my brother. I released this little guy into the Caribbean Sea. There I learned that only 1 of 1,000 newborn sea turtles make it to adulthood.
She’s the turtle queen.

And finally, I wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of my family and friends. Shout out to my sister for helping me make it a thing. So there you have it. If you’re not convinced, just ask me to do it in person. On a Tuesday, of course.

Update 8/2014: Having been inquired about the status of my personal Turtle Tuesday Snapchats, I would like to say that I have taken a hiatus on the holiday. Who knows though, #TT may return in the upcoming school year!
